WAEGLI DESIGN was entrusted not only with visually reimagining the classical drum grater but also rethinking its technical functionality. While infusing the design with more modern forms, we remained true to its iconic look, ensuring a seamless blend of tradition and innovation. Moreover, we introduced significant enhancements to both the suction mechanism and drum design, ensuring an effortless grating experience for users worldwide.
During the design for manufacturing process (DFM), WAEGLI DESIGN assumed a leading role in close collaboration with ZYLISS and its supplier. Our collaborative approach allowed us to optimize both the visual aesthetics and technical specifications of the gourmet drum grater, ensuring that every detail is perfectly executed in the manufacturing stage.

With its exchangeable drums offering a variety of grating functions, this drum grater empowers you to grate a wide variety of ingredients with ease. From delicately sliced cucumbers to pureed potatoes, and from finely grated vegetables to delectable cheese and nuts, the gourmet drum grater can cater to every individual’s taste and preference.
The new gourmet drum grater features a wide array of ergonomic improvements. For instance, the drum grater features an increased height, allowing it to effortlessly accommodate large bowls underneath. Moreover, the optimized angle of the drum allows for better food ejection, streamlining your grating process and maximizing efficiency.
The plunger of the gourmet drum grater has also undergone a transformation. The new closed design not only simplifies the cleaning process but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the product. We believe that a kitchen tool should not only perform its function flawlessly but also enhance the overall visual appeal of your culinary space.

Throughout the development process, we emphasize close collaboration with all teams involved, as well as extensive prototyping and testing. This collaborative effort is vital to crafting user-friendly solutions that exceed expectations.
A perfect example of our meticulous process can be seen in the strategic placements and functionality of the toggle that engages the suction mechanism. Rigorously tested, we optimized both the ergonomic operation and easy disassembly for cleaning.
Leveraging our in-house 3D-printing technology, we were able to rapidly prototype and test multiple solutions, allowing us to provide valuable feedback to both our client and manufacturer.
